Comprehensive refurbishment of the building’s main façade.
Prior to the works, this façade showed cracks and fissures around the balcony openings, probably due to the absence of lintels and the excessive weight of the stone balcony slabs. Since the façade is protected as a heritage element, it was proposed to reinforce the lintels by installing stainless steel profiles embedded in the lintel and welded by means of stainless steel gusset plates, in order to provide rigidity to the openings. This intervention is fully integrated into the façade without altering its aesthetic appearance.
Additionally, cracks in the walls were stitched, the limestone ashlar stones of the balconies were repaired and unified using steel rods, the cornice of the building was fully repaired on both its underside and upper surface, and finally the walls were painted using mineral glazes, while the wooden shutters were painted with sanitized acrylic paint.
In accordance with the specifications of the Barcelona Heritage Department, only the natural stone on the ground floor and balconies was cleaned, after which a consolidating treatment and a water-repellent were applied for protection.
Architect Jordi Gendrau, an expert in rehabilitation and structures, collaborated in resolving the details of the lintel reinforcements.
